I want to try and plan a trip with my family to singapore, and was wondering what the top 5 must see places are so that I can plan my trip around them.
Thanks in advance!

I'd direct you to the Singapore Tourism Board website to for you to select what's appropriate to any specific interests: http://www.VisitSingapore.com It has a list of "Top 10 Family Experiences": http://www.visitsingapore.com/publish/stbportal/en/home/what_to_do/familyexperience.html Some additional personal recommendations:
Lastly, I just found this website that has some recommendations not found at other websites. Some of the recommendations (e.g. on food) are personal (i.e. I don't necessarily agree with them) and it's not exhaustive but the information is mostly correct (some of it is outdated). I'm not affiliated with the website. |

There's Sentosa (although there's alot of construction going on there now), the Singapore Flyer (Marina Barrage & Suntec City Mall is a stone's throw from it), Chinatown, Little India, the Singapore River (lots of museums there), Orchard Road... Honestly, Singapore is so tiny that you can probably see 4 out of 5 of the above (minus Sentosa) in a day. Since Sentosa is an "island resort", you might choose to spend a full day there. http://www.visitsingapore.com/publish/stbportal/us/home.html PS. Just remember to savour all the different Asian cuisines when you are here. Have fun! |

The Singapore Zoo and Night Safari is fun for the family speaking as a former tourist to this city state. Go after lunch perhaps arrive after 2pm and spend a leisurely time until the night safari starts. With kids and toilet breaks, snack breaks, animal shows, plus dinner you can actually spend a good leisurely 8 hours there. I didn't enjoy Sentosa because it has a beach but it's I suspect man made and facing the port. There's also some kinda observation/communication tower you can go up but it's not that high. There's a luge and skyride and other attractions. However I found everything neither here nor there - basically you can find a better version of everything in another country but if it's your first time in Singapore and you have an extra day to spend then by all means give it a try. |

When co-workers of mine used to visit from the US we used a 3-day and 5-day plan to see Singapore. For top5 I'd go with (in no particular order):
Below is whole plan from memory. Note that some of these things are close to each other but not visited on the same day... just because some time in an air conditioned cab or the MRT is a welcome relief from the equatorial heat. 3-day Plan
5-day Extension

All the above are well recommended, but when you come to singapore, you should enjoy the food here and when you go to these places you can feel the culture and see more than what the attraction can provide you with. I have to say the varieties here are so much that you will put on weight if you have a open mind. I would recommend:
- Maxwell Market - Chicken Rice, Tapioca Pastry (Chinese)
- Newton Circle - Oyster Omelet, BBQ stuff
- Lau Pa Sat - Satay
- Ah Moy Street - Lou Mei, Fish Soup |
